SuperBowl XL

» 06 February 2006 » In Funny »

Since Patriots missed their chance at the SuperBowl this year, I only had slight interest in the game itself and was mostly looking forward to the commercials. However, those have proven to be quite sub-par, except for a couple that were fairly amusing. Here are the links:

There were a couple ofo AmeriQuest Mortgage ones too, but they don’t seem to be online.

As a Steelers fan, I was quite pleased at the outcome (although somewhat embarassed by the controversial calls that helped them gain the victory).

Lynn and I really enjoyed the Secret Fridge commercial, but we just happened to run into that one as we used our PVR to skip through almost everything else. Yay PVR! Boo more product placement…

I’d add the MasterCard MacGuyver commercial to the list. I also liked the ending of the Diet Pepsi commercial with Jackie Chan.

As a Pittsburgh ex-pat (along with at least a half million or so others), I was also relieved with the outcome.

One thing interesting about the controversial calls is that Seahawks fans are complaining over the wrong ones: the Roethlisburger TD run and the offensive pass interference. Those would hold under review.

The ones they should have complained about are the “illegal tackle” by Hasselback on the 4th quarter interception return and the holding call on their last good drive—the latter was very important.

But I guess it is more fun for these ignorant bandwagon fans to say that “refs stole the game” instead of admit that their receivers dropped passes they should have caught, that their QB threw a tide-turning floater, that their FG kicker couldn’t find the uprights, that the team never learned to convert in 3rd down (like the entire regular season), and that they had the worst managed two-minute drill I’ve ever seen from a West Coast Offense (twice!).

If my team played that poorly I’d say they’d deserve to lose. In fact, the Steelers played almost as poorly and I’d be the first to say that that was a game they deserved to lose, they just deserved to lose it less. 🙂
