Punctuation Matters

Saw a headline today – Bush: Militants Seek to Establish Empire. I think the editorial process didn’t catch the mistake: the colon should have been a comma.

Actually no punctuation would be correct.

    The article should start:

President Bush acknowledged Thursday that his Iraq war had created militants of seeking to establish a “radical Islamic empire” with its base in
Iraq and said the U.S. and its allies had foiled only 10 of the 1000 plots by the al-Qaida terror network in the past four years.

When asked to comment on these two facts he said “Oops” and “It’s, it’s, it’s … hard work” respectively.

As opposed to liberals, who avoid hard work.

If you can’t deny that the US has created a huge terrorist training ground in Iraq where none existed before or that the US’s track record against al-Qaida is poor, then all you can do is attempt to distract with nonsense.

So, you’re arguing that Saddam was the greatest of leaders?

Guess you don’t pay attention to current events:

“The investigation into an alleged plot to bomb the city’s subway moved forward on several fronts Friday as a third suspect was arrested in
    Iraq…”

“So, you’re arguing that Saddam was the greatest of leaders?”

There is the nonsense for all to see. Maybe if you waived you hands while said that “Saddam” it would seem to make more sense. By this logic, any country that does not have the “greatest of leaders” we should invade, spend $200 trillion (and counting) of the taxpayer’s money, and kill 2100+/wound 14,000+ of our brave soldiers. You must be one of those tax and spend nation builders.

I’ll take your post about detaining alledged terrorists in Iraq (note: not NY or Afganastan, but Iraq) as supporting the statement “the US has created a huge terrorist training ground in Iraq”.

But before you go out on a limb there, I would wait to see what this story really is, coming so close to the Bush speech on terrorism, and with the Feds saying that the information was just not very credible.

$200 trillion. Really. Source? (And don’t link to some ultra-left tabloid rag like The Nation.)

“I’ll take your post about detaining alledged terrorists in Iraq (note: not NY or Afganastan, but Iraq) as supporting the statement “the US has created a huge terrorist training ground in Iraq”.”

Take it that way, and you’re showing you suffer from delusion. Yeah, I guess Saddam would have handed the terrorist right over.

“But before you go out on a limb there, I would wait to see what this story really is, coming so close to the Bush speech on terrorism, and with the Feds saying that the information was just not very credible.”

Oohhh – the conspiracy defense! Rather than facing facts…

You are correct, that should be $200 billion and counting (I meant to write 1/4 trillion). That in no way diminishes the immense amount of money and lives wasted. Especially as the effort should have been to eliminate groups like Al Quaida, or energy independence, etc. etc.

As to “Oohhh – the conspiracy defense!”, it’s only a conspiracy if there is some attempt to hide it, but this administration manipulates for ratings as a matter of course. Their track record is clear.

FYI – Here is what the government has to say about the demonstration (at taxpayer expense) adjacent to Bush’s terrorism speech:

“The intelligence community has been able to determine that there are very serious doubts about the credibility of this specific threat,” Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke said yesterday.

I guess that to you that means they are going to nuke us in 20 minutes.

You’re really going to dishonor soldiers by saying their lives were wasted? They very much believe in what they’re doing.

Again there is the nonsense for all to see. Launching off about “dishonoring” soldiers. You are obviously a fascist who desires a totalatarian government where no variation from the government’s official line is allowed.

It is not “saying” that their lives were wasted that dishonors them. That’s stating a fact. You dishonor soldiers by sending them to a war that is based on lies. You dishonor soldiers by insufficently preparing, equiping and supporting them. We dishonored a generation of soldiers in Vietnam with a war based on lies, and this generation will be tainted as well.

I know soldiers and, though the are by definition committed to any mission they are sent on, they are very much dismayed by situation in Iraq. It is this administration that has dishonored our brave soldiers and this great country with their lies and immorality.

LOL, every time Lefties get backed into a corner they resort to name-calling. Calling people fascist is one of their favorites!

You’re also lying about soldiers being dismayed. Get out more and read more. You’ll find just how untrue your statements are.

Backed into a corner? You go bupkis but a bunch of bumper sticker slogans and a terrorist hoax. Calling me a liar doesn’t change the facts. Maybe you should stop reading and actually get out more. Our brave soldiers know exactly what the score is in Iraq. As do our Reservists because more of them are dying that Regular Army at this point. Of course it doesn’t change their commitment to the job they have been given. That is why it is so important that when we ask them to fight, we are sure it is for the truth.

Damn right the soldiers know the score. And it’s not what you and the scraggly jobless ignorant war protestors claim it is. Go listen to somebody who’s actually been over there and lived with the soldiers – like Michael Medved. They’re totally committed and behind the mission.

Again you try to spin the nonsense. No one but the lunatic fringe, both left and right, don’t support our troops or don’t think that the troops are committed to their mission. The whole “support our troops” thing is just to distract with nonsense. None if this is about how committed our brave men and women in uniform are — that’s a fact.

It is the lies that sent them to Iraq; that has kept them from going after Al Quaida elsewhere; that has turned them into the bait in a terrorist incubator; that has wasted billions. That is what has dishonored the troops. It is those lies that you keep avoiding by calling names and attempting to distract with nonsense.

As to Medved, he sold his soul to make a buck selling neo-con tracts when the market for them is hot. Good business move, maybe — source of the truth, hardly.
