Sailing

Went sailing (photos) on the Bay last weekend. Absolutely fantastic. Must take lessons now so I actually know what I’m doing.

Oh yeah, having a big party this weekend to celebrate the green card finalization. It only took 6 frigging hours (starting at 6am) of sitting in the INS office to get the stamp put in my passport. Slowest. Bureaucracy. Ever.

What’s it take to go from green card to citizen?

You have to be a permanent resident for at least 5 years, during which you cannot be away from US for more than a year at a time. I assume you have to pay your taxes and be a patriot as well.

How about on the other end – what’s it take to get to the point of having a green card?

I think you have to take a “citizenship” test as well.

Lots of patience and gray hairs it seems. It’s a pretty complex process, because you can get it in one of several ways, depending on circumstances.
